I am 20 and live in Kent, England and am at uni in London studying Fine Art, except I may transfer somewhere else as the course is pretty badly run. I had never done any abstract art before September '07 but I can't stop doing it now! I love Kandinsky, although my work isn't really like his. I use oils and acrylics and whatever else comes to hand.

Getting into painting for me was just a matter of love of the touch and smell of oil paint, not about anything you can do with it in particular. My mother took a bunch of art classes in college - she went as an adult after having me and my sister - and she used to take the two of us with her to the studio sometimes. I just loved the smell of it I think, and when I played around with some paint and clay and such, the feel.

The only problem is, I never took art class in school, I always thought languages would be more useful, so took 2 or 3 instead of art and music as electives. Not the choice I would make now. So basically I sucked at art, and have learned mostly whatever skills I have as an adult. I did do some stuff at home, but missed out on anyone critiquing it and showing me better ways to do stuff.

I almost always start my paintings as abstract, and then also almost always end up seeing patterns which have happened there by accident, and turning them into symbolic elements in the abstract framework.

The goal of my artwork is to explore the boundary between accidental and intentional, or order and chaos, whatever you want to call that weird boundary. I could write all day about it, and actually I have about 500 pages of a book on the subject (which will probably only be like 50 after I take out all the crap) and I want to do illustrations for everything throughout, so it'll be a while before I'm done.

There now, see, I'm very wordy

Hi, my name is Jennifer. I am a high school World History teacher. I love painting abstract for a few reasons. I have never learned anything about art, so it is easy to paint asbstract--as art is waht you make of it. It is so relaxing! There is little thinking unless you are planning a certain piece. Please view my works. I am really interested in becoming "noticed!" Thanks!

Hi all!! :D I am Debjani, originally a watercolor artist. I switched to digital because traditional work became increasingly difficult with the rigors of grad school and the issue of shared living space. I create art in MSPaint, Photoshop and Apophysis. I am a doctoral student at the Arizona State University. Used to work as a journalist in India.
Painting for me is a sanity restoring exercise, an emotional act, and the choicest mode of savoring creative satisfaction. Being a part of the virtual community of artists on deviantart is a pleasure and a privilege. I am especially happy to be a part of this club because I love abstract, expressionist and impressionistic art. It is also an opportunity to observe the work of fellow members who are amazingly creative, passionate, and endlessly talented. I thank Peggy for establishing this wonderful platform and meeting place for abstract artists.

Hey, Im in Highschool and am completely in love with art (not just abstract) hoping to become an artist eventually so this is just a stepping stone :D Im hoping to grow and expand a lot so any advice would be amazing!! As far as my abstract art goes, i had a lot of trouble letting go and just painting, i was hooked on trying to make stuff look realistic and i always hated my paintings because of that. But now ive let go and can really enjoy painting and sometimes i actually like how they turn out:D Thanks for letting me be a part of this great club:D!!
